During my journey to fine-art photography, there's a secret place to be found named Utopia (aka the perfect picture) and sometimes I feel so close to this land ... It can't be a legend .. Oops!

Well, I'm quite happy of this one. Because I've turned my computer into a real darkroom to create the picture I had in my mind. The pose could be better but it started as a test for me and now that I can apply "my vision" on my pictures and it seems that it works!

I hope you will enjoy the picture.

Comments are welcome.
Peace,

Aegy

Great photo! How did you get the black background? Is that material, or did you do the "invisible background trick"?

Thanks for your comment.

The background is naturally black, but it's getting old with a lot of distracting folds, scratches ...

In this particular case, I've just created 2 different exposures from my original raw file, one for the background to put it in zone 0 and I ("pure" black zones) and the other one for Helena and blend them to obtain the picture I had in my mind. A kind of modern darkroom work

The original exposure is more than correct but with the old background some distracting elements tend to appear even if you put the background out of focus.

Hope that answers your question.

So, just to confirm, you took one shot with an exposure settings for the background, and a second shot with exposure settings for the model.

Not exactly. I've processed my raw file for the the model -step 1 and for the background -step 2 resulting in 2 different pictures then I've "blended" them into 1 final picture -step 3 (unlike a hdr image there's only one exposure but 2 processed pictures then blended together).

To be short: expose for your highlights ( high tones/zones ) and then process for your shadows ( low tones/zones ) That's one of the advantage of shooting raw files, flexibility.

Hope it helps.

Aegy
